Violent media is one of the issues in the modern world, where parents, teachers and the society in general are increasingly worried over the effect of violent media on the developing children. For instance, the society has fears that children who are exposed to violent media will grow to be violent people, giving way to a violent society. However, Gerald Jones, in his argument ‘violent media is good for kids’, says that in contrary to what the society believes, or is made to believe, violent media builds strong, courageous and effective group in the society. In addition, violent media helps the children learn the reality within our society, which is ridden with violence in several ways. Exposure to violent media instills deep fear among children. The violent acts that young people expose themselves to make them consider the world a mean and highly unsafe place to be. Horror movies, the mother of violent media, heighten anxiety among teenagers who watch them. Besides, aggression and violent media bears considerable resemblance to lung cancer and terrible habit of smoking. Young people who spent a significant part of their relaxation time watching violent movies are most likely to exhibit aggressive behavior. Furthermore, experiences may become normal to an individual when they constantly see or experience it. That is also true when it comes to exposure to violent media. Children find it a normal aspect of life, although moral teachings encourage shunning it and promoting peaceful coexistence. The above are critical, fundamental points that Gerald Jones fails to consider in his fallacious writing “Violent Media is Good for Kids”.
